Rafael Nadal will not play at the US Open this month, saying he “cannot play at 100 percent right now”.

Nadal, who lost to Novak Djokovic in the singles at the Paris Olympics and reached the quarterfinals in the doubles with partner Carlos Alcaraz, has only played in the US Open once since 2019.

The 38-year-old Spaniard did not confirm any specific injuries or health issues, but said he had decided not to compete in New York.

in Post to X, Out“It’s a place that holds some truly amazing memories,” he said of the U.S. Open, which begins Aug. 19.

“I will miss those intense and special night sessions at Ashes in New York,” added Nadal, a 22-time Grand Slam winner, including four US Open titles.

He said he plans to compete in the Laver Cup in Berlin in September.

Nadal, who has previously said he expects to retire at the end of the year, said he was not “100 percent” sure whether Roland Garros would be his last before the French Open.

He withdrew from the Australian Open in January due to injury and did not compete at Wimbledon to focus on the Olympics.
