Ranking Jets coaching options from suitable to thankless.

The Jets cast a wide net in their search for a new head coach.

The team has already begun interviewing candidates and has compiled a list of interview requests for other candidates this week. It’s debatable what the Jets should be looking for. Some Jets fans want the Offensive Wizard to come in and give the team a top-10 offense they haven’t had in years. Others want a CEO type who oversees everything without calling for plays on both sides of the ball. Many fans are expecting the team to be punished after watching undisciplined football for too long.

I can see both of these arguments. I’ve been through enough of these searches to know that no one knows what the secret sauce is. I thought the Jets did it right when they hired then-leading candidate Robert Saleh for 2021. When Todd Bowles was hired, he had been an assistant coach the previous season. Adam Gase was an offensive mind who oversaw the highest scoring offense in NFL history.

The Jets tried a variety of methods, but they didn’t work. So I don’t pretend to have an answer as to who the Jets hire. However, I do have a few opinions.
