Manchester United striker Marcus Rashford has revealed he is ready to leave his boyhood club after being left out of the Manchester derby by manager Ruben Amorim.

Rashford, along with team-mate Alejandro Garnacho, was left out of United’s squad for Sunday’s game against Manchester City. Because Amorim has made it clear that he expects his players to meet certain “standards.”

The England international has faced increasing criticism over his performances and attitude over the past 18 months, a stark contrast to his impressive 30-goal season under Erik ten Hag in 2022-23.

Amorim’s bold call to omit Rashford and Garnacho ultimately paid off, with United securing a 2–1 win over their rivals.

Following this decision, reports have emerged that Rashford could leave the club in 2025 and that a loan move is also being discussed.

In an interview with journalist Henry Winter, Rashford said he was “ready for a new challenge.”

He said, “Personally, I think I am ready to take on new challenges and take the next step.

“There will be ‘no hard feelings’ when I leave. You won’t have any negative comments about Manchester United. That’s me.

“If you know that a situation is already bad, you won’t make it worse. I’ve seen how other players have left in the past and I don’t want to be that person. “I will make a statement when I leave and it will come from me.”

When asked if he would always remain a ‘Red’, Rashford reaffirmed his loyalty by saying “Yes!” 100%. 100%.”

Reflecting on being left out of the derby, Rashford admits it was a tough pill to swallow.

“It’s disappointing to be left out of the derby,” he admitted. “But it happened. We won the game, so let’s move on. It’s unfortunate, but I’m also a person who can handle frustration as I get older. What will I do about it? Just sit there and cry. Otherwise, just do your best next time you have time.”

Despite recent struggles, Rashford remains confident in his ability to adapt to Amorim’s system, pointing out that while he can play in a variety of positions, some roles come more naturally to him.

“I have the characteristics to play all three positions. Some positions are more natural to me, some require more training and more tactical (work). “The left side suits me best,” he explained.

“Left 10 still suits me, but I have to adapt to the game. The biggest skill is adaptability. People may not see it, but eventually they will see that I have played in a variety of positions under every manager.

“I am now halfway through my career. I don’t expect this to be my prime. I’ve spent nine years in the Premier League so far, and it’s taught me a lot and helped me grow as a player and a person.

“That’s why I have never regretted the past nine years. As I live day by day, bad things and good things happen, so I don’t think I will regret it in the future. I just try to keep a good balance. 100% [the best is yet to come]. That’s my way of thinking.”
