Arizona Republican Representative Carrie Lake, who twice failed to secure congressional office, is reportedly a strong candidate to become President Donald Trump’s ambassador to Mexico.
News, broken for the first time Posted by SemaforGiven Lake’s firm stance on border security and close alignment with Trump’s political ethos, it sent waves of excitement.
Semafor spoke with two people with knowledge of the situation, who pointed out that Lake is a prime candidate for the role.
“As U.S. ambassador to Mexico, Lake will be responsible for working with Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum’s government on a number of controversial issues, including immigration, opposition to drugs, and Trump’s pledge to enact new tariffs on imports,” they wrote.
The outlet also points out that Lake is a polarizing figure in some circles and could only lose three Republican votes during confirmation.

Ambassador Kari Lake to Mexico
Kari Lake’s defenders will see this as a strategic move by Trump to leverage her hard-line stance on border issues to ensure American interests are strongly represented, especially as they relate to immigration.
Her Senate campaign focused on securing the border, finishing the wall and addressing what she described as an “invasion” of illegal aliens. This position is consistent with President-elect Donald Trump’s policies.
If appointed, Lake will be tasked with striking a delicate balance between enforcing Trump’s policies and maintaining diplomatic relations with Mexico.
This is especially true under the leadership of President Claudia Sheinbaum, who may not share Lake’s views on immigration or Trump’s desire to implement tariffs.

Knows how to deal with pressure.
Not only does she have the right hard-line approach to criminal immigration, but Kari Lake has the looks to be a successful ambassador to Mexico. Just ask Bill Clinton.
Clinton raised an eyebrow. I’m almost drooling. Over the lake while campaigning for your opponent. He praised Lake as “physically attractive” and wondered what she would look like “prostrate before her master.”
Give the person a shock collar.
Lake’s background as a successful journalist and her ability to connect with people from all walks of life have made her a respected and influential figure in the conservative movement.
When it comes to power, nothing gets you more titanium spine than turning down a bribe from an establishment Republican, even if the bribe amount reaches millions or “billions” because you feel saving America is more important.
