New Delhi: The Centre’s infrastructure project monitoring system is being revamped to enhance tracking of milestones in the pre-construction phase and provide information on all phases of the project, sources said.

The updated system, scheduled to be rolled out next month, will identify potential slippages to ensure costs and schedules stay within approved limits, people familiar with the development said. It also captures project start and bid award dates compared to previously recorded board approval dates. Additionally, the project completion date is derived based on the start date.

The Online Computer Monitoring System (OCMS) of the Ministry of Statistics and Program Implementation (MoSPI), which facilitates project monitoring by the Prime Minister’s Office, Cabinet Secretariat and government think tank NITI Aayog, tracks central infrastructure projects worth over ₹150 crore. . The OCMS portal publishes monthly and quarterly reports on the status of central infrastructure projects across sectors and states. This report includes details about completed, added, deleted, and ongoing projects. On the financial side, it provides information about original and projected costs, allowing you to track cost overruns or additional expenses.

As part of the revamp, OCMS will be integrated with the India Investment Grid (IIG)-Project Monitoring Group (PMG) portal through an application programming interface (API) to ensure single entry of specific data points and consistency across definitions and calculations.

Sources said the effort will work closely with the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) and the Department of Economic Affairs (DEA).
