Rhys Williams has now reportedly extended his loan spell at Morecambe.

The England defender, who has featured in nine senior Liverpool games, will remain with the Ligue 2 side after signing a new contract until the end of the 2024/25 season.

The news in question was confirmed by X (formerly Twitter), with the initial deal set to expire in January.

The 23-year-old has scored two goals in 25 appearances across all competitions for the Shrimps.

Morecambe currently sit 23rd from bottom in the League Two table, with 20 points in hand.

Williams spent most of his senior career on loan, playing for the likes of Swansea City and Blackpool.

Morecambe manager Derek Adams has expressed his delight at retaining the young centre-back for the remainder of the season.

“It’s really good for him because I think he’s gotten stronger and stronger since he’s been here.” the 49-year-old quoted. morecambefc.com.

“He loves the club and enjoys working with the staff and players. I think that’s very important.

“Quite easily, he could have moved on but that could have halted his growth pattern. I think staying here and playing every week will help him in the long run.”

With Williams sadly unlikely to see senior game time in the future, we are delighted to see the development of his game clearly being looked after well in Lancashire.

Considering the likes of Joe Gomez and the very promising Jarrell Quansa (21) are ranked ahead of Virgil van Dijk and Ibrahima Konate, it is difficult to know where the opportunities will come from.

We strongly expect Liverpool to sell the player at the next opportunity, considering his current term is set to expire in the summer of 2026.
