Paris, France, June 7, 2024 | Lee Rogers

Emerson Jones becomes the first Australian in 10 years to reach the women’s doubles semifinals at Roland Garros.

The 15-year-old Jones continued her impressive run with Italy’s Vittoria Paganetti, knocking out the second seed in the quarterfinals.

Jones and Paganetti won 6-4, 7-5 against the British combination of Hannah Klugman and Mingge Xu.

This makes world No. 2 Jones the third Australian to reach the women’s doubles semifinals at a clay-court Grand Slam tournament in the last 20 years, and the first to do so since Naikta Baines (now representing Great Britain) in 2014. .

Meanwhile, Matt Ebden’s bid to become the first Australian to reach the men’s doubles final at Roland Garros in 24 years is over.

The 36-year-old from Perth and his Indian partner Rohan Bopana suffered their first Grand Slam loss of the season and were eliminated in the men’s doubles semi-finals.

In a rematch of this year’s Australian Open final, Italy’s Simone Bolelli and Andrea Vavassori came from behind to win 7-5 2-6 6-2.

This ended World No. 3 Ebden’s career-best performance in Paris.

Three Australian players will compete at Roland Garros on Day 13, including Yassine Hill, who has a chance to win his first major title.

After completing the Wheelchair Men’s Singles event, the 17-year-old from Melbourne turned his attention to the Wheelchair Men’s Doubles final. He is teaming with Dutch competitor Ivar Van Rijt, the singles winner.
