After Italy’s exit from the Euros, Riccardo Calafiori will soon emerge as a leading candidate in the global transfer market.
Luciano Spalletti’s side suffered a disappointing 0-2 loss to Switzerland.
Fabrizio Romano reports that Premier League clubs are expected to join the race to sign Liverpool’s transfer target this summer.
“He is a player who has already given Juventus the green light for a potential transfer in this case.” A CaughtOffside columnist said: here we go Podcast.
“In February/March, Calafiori had already said ‘yes’ to Juventus. Bologna coach Thiago Motta joined Juventus. So Calafiori could be the perfect opportunity, but the relationship between Bologna and Juventus is not so easy due to the Motta affair. They will not make life easy for Juventus in negotiations for Riccardo Calafiori.
“That is why Bologna expect a Premier League club to join the race to sign Calafiori. Arsenal are interested. It is not a negotiation, but they are interested. Chelsea are also looking to sign another talented player in a defensive position. It could be a left-back or a centre-back, but he is left-footed. Riccardo Calafiori is one of the most talented.
“So keep an eye on two clubs, Chelsea and Arsenal. But Juventus have secured a licence for the player, but the deal with Bologna is still ongoing, so the competition is still open.”
Meanwhile, the Merseyside side are thought to be maintaining their interest in Newcastle United’s Anthony Gordon.

However, the chances of completing a move for the Magpies footballer look rather slim considering the finances involved.

The perfect signing for Liverpool
Liverpool clearly need a left centre-back, not unlike Anthony Gordon in terms of position.
There have been many calls for a right-back after Joel Matip left the club at the end of his contract.
But – and it big But – when will we get serious about finding a successor to Virgil van Dijk?
Don’t get me wrong, I don’t think our huge No. 4 is going to be packing for us any time soon. We don’t want him to either.
But while we continue to scour the market for a viable and reliable partner for the Southampton player, we are potentially missing out on an opportunity to secure the future of our backline for the next decade and a half.
Riccardo Calafiori could be the man to ease the serious transfer anxiety we are experiencing here at the Empire of the Kop.
At least it’s worth talking about!
