Ruben Amorim says he will fight “mercilessly” ahead of Manchester United’s Premier League clash with Ipswich Town at Portman Road tomorrow.
In the embargo section of the pre-game press conference held ahead of tomorrow’s game, Amorim said, “There are places where you can have fun and places where you can work hard. So I can be ruthless when I need to be. But if you think about it as a team, I’ll be the best guy you’ve ever seen.
“If there were people who only thought about themselves, I would be a different person.”
“I am not the type of person who wants to show that he is in charge. They will feel it even in the little details.”
“I can be the one who smiles, but if they have something to do, I can be the other one.”
“Imitating someone is difficult. So I have to be me. I always pay attention to detail and try to keep players focused on the history of the club rather than recent history. You have to be very demanding. “This is a club that has to win everything.”
“Times are different. I can’t be like Alex Ferguson. Times are different now and a different approach is needed. But you can also ask for it.
Regarding joining mid-season, “It is much more difficult to join the team in the middle of the season. This means that there is no period of national team activity because you have to get to know the players during the game. It’s just a game with players.
“It depends on the situation. It’s really fun to play a lot of games and try to make tactical changes and win if you win. But if you’re losing, you don’t have time to train to achieve everything you want to do.”
“Where we can improve our team is in training. This is the most important aspect.
“You can tell players to recover and react quickly, but if you don’t train, it’s really hard to do that on video or in recovery drills, but we will find ways to deal with that.”
Speaking about the club’s academy players, Amorim said:
“This is a Manchester United project. These days you need young players, players from the academy, for everything. It’s about bringing in the history of the club because it makes you feel the club in a different way.
“And also because there are all these rules about financial fair play, when the players in our academy are so different from the players we buy and sell. So everything is connected. “We will try to help all players, especially young players,” he said.
Asked about keeping up with Pep Guardiola at Manchester City, Amorim said:
“I think this is everyone’s problem here. But we have so much to do that we can’t focus on anyone.
“We need to focus on our club and improve our club, not on other clubs. So let’s focus on Manchester United.
“If you can beat that team it would be amazing, it’s a good sign, but let’s focus on United.”
