Manchester United interim manager Ruud van Nistelrooy has revealed he would like to meet Ruben Amorim and get to know him better.

United appointed Amorim as replacement for the sacked Erik ten Hag on Friday.

Amorim is expected to officially take charge of the Red Devils on November 11 following matches between Sporting Lisbon, Manchester City and Braga.

Van Nistelrooy was in the dugout during Sunday’s 1-1 draw with Chelsea. Bruno Fernandes gave the Red Devils the lead but Chelsea equalized four minutes later through Moises Caicedo.

As a result, the club sits 13th in the Premier League table with just 12 points from 10 games and is already 13 points behind leaders Liverpool.

Van Nistelrooy spoke to reporters after the final whistle and said of Amorim: “I look forward to getting to know him better.”

“Obviously he did very well in Portugal. He is a very young and talented coach and has had a long period of good results in Portugal. So, as I said, my main goal is to continue to help the club improve.”

“I have never spoken to him and no conversations are planned at this time.”

“We are doing our best to prepare for the games on Thursday and Sunday, and in the meantime we are waiting to see how communication with the new manager develops.”

During the draw with Chelsea, the Netherlands manager said: “I was a bit disappointed that we couldn’t get a second goal with the opportunities we had today. I feel that way personally and in the dressing room as well.”

He added, “We lost points in the last game because we did not properly utilize our opportunities.” The good thing is that we have produced a lot throughout the season so far.”

“In that sense, I’m not too worried. “As the players get results and their confidence grows and they get into the flow, the goals will come.”

United return to Europa League action on Thursday when they face Greek side PAOK FC.
