Senate discovers 3 new private trips

Democrats on the Senate Judiciary Committee discovered three new trips that Judge Clarence Thomas received from Harlan Crow but never made public.

Democratic members of the Senate Judiciary Committee posted on Twitter:

The Durban senator said in a statement: “Let me be clear: Chief Justice Roberts has the authority to enforce enforceable codes of conduct. He was rejected. “I will continue to push legislation until he acts.”

The Senate Can’t Do Much About Clarence Thomas

The problem is that the Senate can’t do anything without new legislation. Impeachment proceedings against Thomas must begin in the House of Representatives. The chances that House Republicans will investigate Clarence Thomas are less than zero. The Republican House majority also is unlikely to pass legislation that would lead to ethics reform or Supreme Court oversight.

Democrats already have legislation imposing an ethics code and independent oversight on the Supreme Court. But the earliest this bill could become law is January 2025, and that would only happen if Democrats take control of the entire federal government.

In the meantime, all Senator Durbin can do is push the bill and continue to investigate.

But if the Democrats take back the House and retain the Senate and House of Representatives, the days of Clarence Thomas as a corrupt Supreme Court justice will be numbered.
