Senator Richard Blumenthal of Connecticut said Supreme Court Justice Samuel Alito reject reject He himself has “complete disregard for common sense and reliability.”

“In fact, what Justice Alito is doing is discrediting the court and destroying the American people’s trust in the court with these flimsy excuses that don’t pass the red test,” he told CNN’s Kaitlan Collins.

Alito’s rejection comes after reports that an upside-down flag symbolizing allegiance to the January 6 insurrection and the “Stop the Steal” right-wing movement was displayed outside his private property. To excuse his lack of ethics, Alito cowardly went so far as to accuse his wife of “loving to wave the flag.” But unfortunately, as Blumenthal points out, “there is no enforceable code of conduct.”

“I urge that the Judicial Conference should have an auditor. “I urge there to be an enforceable code of conduct.” He said Republicans must cooperate, but noting that conservative Chief Justice John Roberts can and should lead the way.

“Roberts has a responsibility here to show some spine and intervene in the breach,” he added. “I think our senators need to hear an explanation from him. I think he owes it to Congress and the American people. “There is absolutely no hope that Judge Alito will comply with the subpoena.”

in New York Times Special On Wednesday, Rep. Jamie Raskin of Maryland argued that just because “the highest court in the land has the lowest ethical standards” does not mean there is no recourse.

“The U.S. Department of Justice, including the U.S. Attorney for the District of Columbia, the appointed U.S. Special Counsel, and the Attorney General, have all been involved in various ways in the criminal prosecutions underlying this case and are opposing Mr. Trump’s Constitution and laws. “A court claim—you can ask the other seven justices to recuse Justices Alito and Thomas as a matter of law, not a matter of grace,” he said.

Blumenthal agreed that although this was something he “reluctantly” imagined the DOJ would do, “Justices Alito and Thomas continue to tarnish and defile basic standards and norms of decency and ethics.”

“I think the time has come to take very bold action because the American people are losing trust in the Supreme Court,” he said.
