In the T20 World Cup 2024 Super 8 match between USA and West Indies, Shai Hope played a stunning innings, scoring an unbeaten 82 off just 39 balls to help West Indies to a resounding 9-wicket win. The match was played at Kensington Oval in Bridgetown, and West Indies captain Robman Powell took the starting spot and chose to bowl first against the USA.

First Inning – USA Batting:

The US innings started poorly early on when opener Stephen Taylor was caught by Roston Chase off Andre Russell in the second over. But Andris Goss and Nitish Kumar put together a solid partnership of 48 runs during the powerplay. Their position collapsed when Kumar was caught LBW while attempting a reverse sweep to Gutakesh Moti.

Gous continued to bat aggressively but was beaten by Shai Hope at long-on, who hit a big shot to Alzarri Joseph. US captain Aaron Jones briefly fought back with a six but was soon bowled by Roston Chase, leaving the US struggling at 66-4. Chase took the wickets of Corey Anderson and Harmeet Singh to further dismantle the US batting line, taking his best T20I figures of 3-19 from four overs.

Despite a late display from Milind Kumar, who scored 19 from 21 balls, and a brief display from Ali Khan, who scored his maiden T20I run with a six, the USA were bowled out for 128 in 19.5 overs.

2nd Innings – West Indies Batting:

Chasing 129 runs for victory, West Indies got off to a brilliant start with Shai Hope taking the lead. Hope’s explosive knock included eight sixes, helping West Indies reach their target in just 10.5 overs. He was well-received, and the Caribbean team cruised to 130/1, securing victory with 9.1 overs to spare.

The win was crucial for the West Indies and kept their hopes alive in the tournament despite both teams losing their opening Super Eight matches (West Indies to England and USA to South Africa). The defeat confirmed the USA’s early exit from the tournament, while the West Indies remained in contention for a place in the semi-finals.
