Indian cricketer Shikhar Dhawan has officially announced his retirement from international and domestic cricket, bringing an end to his illustrious career spanning over two decades.
The 38-year-old opener made his announcement through an emotional video message on social media, thanking everyone who supported him throughout his journey. He especially thanked his family, childhood coach, team-mates, Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and Delhi and District Cricket Association (DDCA).
Dhawan’s career is highlighted by his outstanding performances in ICC tournaments, earning him the nickname “Mr. ICC” among fans. He has been particularly successful in One Day Internationals (ODIs), consistently performing well in the major matches. His contributions include being the top run scorer for India in the 2013 and 2017 ICC Champions Trophy tournaments and the 2015 Cricket World Cup.
