There are many ways to reuse products such as plastic bottles, wine corks, and old CDs and DVDs. But have you ever thought that silica gel packets can be reused?

Silica gel, an odorless material that naturally absorbs moisture, is used as a desiccant to prevent rotting, molding, and decomposition of products due to moisture. The gel, which looks like tapioca beads or white crystals, is a form of silicon dioxide found in nature as quartz and sand. Although it is not toxic on its own, it can be combined with certain solvents or chemicals to make it toxic. (In this case, it must be disposed of as hazardous waste.)

Silica gel packets seem to be everywhere. You can find them in a variety of products, from vitamin bottles to shoes to new electronics. Before you throw it straight in the trash, check out these reuse tips:
