Dave died Wednesday in Nashville, according to his obituary. Tennessean.
The cause of death is unclear, but Dave was reportedly receiving hospice care at the time of his death.
Born and raised in Tennessee, Dave was one of the state’s most popular songwriters. Johnny Cash, Toby KissAlabama, Winona Jude, Reba McEntire, Willie Nelson, Kenny Rogers, ray charles, Smokey Robinson And there’s Three Dog Night, etc.
Dave is also known for writing the Masters theme song, “Augusta,” which has become a TV staple and synonymous with CBS Sports since he wrote it in 1981. Jim Nantz.
In 1986, Dave became the first and only independent artist to win a CMA Award, taking home the hardware for a duet. Anne Murray“No one loves me like you do.”
He also had a solo hit… “Please Come to Boston”… and his resume includes a Grammy nomination and induction into the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame.
He leaves behind three sons and one grandson.
Dave was 76 years old.
