For summer chores Pittsburgh Steelers linebacker DeQuain Jackson undergoes trial testing In addition to Easton Gibbs, the latter signed with the team before Wednesday’s practice. NFL reporter Aaron Wilson shared the information via the league’s trade report Wednesday night.

Undrafted out of Colorado in 2023, Jackson has spent his entire NFL career with the Jacksonville Jaguars. He spent last season on the team’s practice squad and signed a reserve/futures contract in January. Jacksonville waived him after rookie minicamp in mid-May.

In the 2023 preseason, Jackson recorded two tackles. He played 32 defensive snaps, with 24 more on special teams, according to Pro Football Focus. He has yet to play in a regular season game.

At his 2023 pro day, he weighed in at 6’14” and 214 pounds, running a respectable 40.4.66 with a 33.5-inch vertical, 9’11” broad, and 7.08 three-cone time. He recorded 322 tackles in college, and he’ll hit triple figures in 2022. A playmaker, he’s recorded 27 total tackles along with 4.5 sacks and two forced fumbles, the latter of which came in his final season.

Ultimately, the team decided to sign Gibbs instead, who was brought in to replace LB Tyler Murray, who was waived/injured Tuesday with a hamstring injury. Gibbs will be on the moving train ahead of Friday night’s preseason opener against the Houston Texans. If Pittsburgh or another team in the league suffers more injuries in training camp, Jackson will remain on speed dial. The Steelers pro scouting department, led by Sheldon White, is busy coordinating workouts this season and scouting the rest of the league for players Pittsburgh might be interested in cutting.
