The Minnesota Vikings have added quarterback Daniel Jones, who was released by the New York Giants just days ago after five disappointing seasons.
Jones will start on the Vikings’ practice squad, but could provide a solid backup option behind Sam Darnold, who is having a breakout season.
But as far as Jones’ actual impact, ESPN personality Stephen A. Smith is unimpressed, as Jones would support a man who has had a disappointing career.
“I have something to say to Daniel Jones. You’re supporting Sam Darnold,” Smith said.

Both Jones and Darnold were very high draft picks a few years ago and were thought to have the potential to become legitimate franchise quarterbacks in the NFL.
However, neither was successful and both seemed to be rendered as decent backup quarterbacks at best.
But this season, Darnold has been playing outstanding football, as Smith pointed out, and has given the Vikings a seemingly real opportunity to win the NFC North by leading them to a 9-2 record.
Jones threw for a respectable 3,027 yards and 24 touchdowns as a rookie in 2019, but his production has since declined significantly, with 2,070 passing yards, eight passing touchdowns, and seven interceptions in 10 games this year.
It’s yet to be seen if he’ll get another opportunity to start at center for an NFL team moving forward, but perhaps there’s a situation that could help boost his production significantly like Darnold did in Minnesota this year.
