Study: Is Pittsburgh the draft’s slot corner?

MONews
7 Min Read

It’s been a long time since the Pittsburgh Steelers has the right piece in the slot corner. Mike Hilton’s rotating horse after 2020 can suggest that CAM Sutton is more time to invest more after failing. The UDFA, the 2024 UDFA, was folded and did a good job last season, but the potential upgrade should be considered.

It is ideal for versatility, as well as coverage, run defense and blazing. Today’s goal is to see the 2024 defense statistics in a draft with at least 75 slot snaps (27 qualifiers). When they see how they are guaranteed in the slot with the entire run defense and pass, they will reveal the high -quality options of Pittsburgh.

First, slot snaps and slot traffic rates are as follows.

First of all, we can see what DBS had the most slot last season last season. Five athletes stick to the most in the slot led by the shamari Simmons, Arizona. His 374 slot snaps led the qualifiers comfortably (fourth in FBS in 2024) and the average 84.4 grade was allowed (15/27).

NOTRE DAME’s Jordan Clark was second in the slot snap (328) and scored 85.0. Kansas’s Marques Sigle scored 300 slot snaps (3rd) and 250 Plus Slot Snaps.

The other two had many opportunities. Iowa’s 282 slot snaps were fourth, but much lower than other large slot players with 110.9 grade (23). BYU’s Jakob Robinson has 274 slot snaps and has a stronger 92.9 grade but still less than average.

The next step of the slot opportunity was slightly higher than the average of the allowed slot traffic grade. Jordan Hancock (226 Snap, 75.2), Carlep Lanson (203, 79.1) of Tulesin, and Maryland’s Glen Don Miller (202, 77.5).

The other three had more than average opportunities, but Georgia’s Malaki Starks (175 Snaps, 94.2), Missouri’s Daylan Carnell (171, 92.8) and Western Kentucky ‘s Upton Stout (164, 92.7).

Then there is a clear layer above and below the average grade for players less used in slots. The following is the top five of the slot traffic grades: Nevada’s Kitan Crawford (22.6, 86 Snap), Texas’s Jarvaron (41.1, 18), California’s Craig Woodson (49.6, 93) (57.1, 91), Alabama’s Malachi Moore (59.0, 114). These are 22.6 of good numbers, especially crawford, and 6th in FBS.

NOTRE DAME ‘S Xavier Watts (64.1, 98), Virginia’s Jonas San Ranker (65.0, 92), Cyrusus Justin Baron (70.8, 92), Nick EmmanWori (73.2, 79) of South Carolina JR. (78.8, 108).

Then there is a clear layer at the bottom left of the player’s lack of quality and quantity in the slot coverage. Of course, hope was a strong balance of both, but unfortunately the player in the top right of the chart emphasizes the true noticeable tribe.

Let’s layer on running defense using stop and missing tackle speeds:

Justin Barron has a 9.0 -run stop ratio, three points higher than other qualifiers. He recorded an average of less than 20.3 final tackle speed (23 days). STARKS has a tackle speed that missed the best 4.3, but paired with 2.1 stop rate (T-21st).

Stout ranked second in the tackle rate (4.7), which matches the stop rate (6th), and his 2024 run defense benefits are one of the most balanced defense products of the group. He both landed on average.

In the rest of the list, Miller (5.9 stop rate-third, 8.3 Miss ratio-7), Woodson (4.3-T-Seventh, 6.7-Sixth) Includes, emmanwori. 3.9-10, 8.5-8), Carnell (4.3-T-SEVENTH, 12.0-11TH), Sanker (4.8-Fifth, 13.0-14), Ransaw (3.8-T-11, 12.5-13th) and Watts (3.6-13th, 12.3-12th).

Pass Rush Snap and Pass Rush Productivity (Combined with Pass Rush Snap and Pass Rush Product (Combined with Sack, Hit, Hurry and Pass Rush Snap):

Once again, the chart does not have a player at the top right. Three athletes in a hurry to land on the average (slight) productivity. Lead and Justin Baron tied the largest pass rush of 17.5 (7th) and 16.3 (11) for the most pass rush of the group. Stout ranked 37th with a 37 -pass rush from the average of the PRP (14.3, 15th).

Then Sanker (22.2 PRP-5th, 21 Snap-T-SEVENTH), Moore (16.7-T-8th, 20-T-NINTH), Simmons (16.7-T-Eighth, 17-11), Jahdae Barron (15.8-12th, 21-t-seventh).

The other two played more than 30 pass rushes: Robinson (35), Castro (31), 8.8 (19th) and 6.9 (20th) were lower than the average among colleagues. Three players are fixed to impressive PRPs, reducing opportunities. Oklahoma’s Billy Bowman Jr. (33.3 PRP -First, 3 snaps), WATTS (30.8 -second, 14) and crawford (30.0-3, 10).

conclusion

It is very difficult and interesting to check all the boxes in the slot CB location, and the results of the study showed that the draft of the community will show most of the qualifiers as safety. The most balanced statistics player was Jonas Sanker, and slot coverage snaps are the result of less than average.

But it is important that the experience is valuable. Marques Sigles and Shamari Simmons were much higher in slot snaps. The lower score of the former missed the tackle in the run defense and there was a pass rush snap below the average. Simmons was overall, and the tackle, who missed the run tackle, is also the clearest weakness of last season.

Miller did a good job in 2024, but the obvious negative was his pass rush production. Stout Rounds the top five of the cumulative statistics, but his worst statistics were allowed to be slot. In the early days, any of the five names listed above will not require high pick investment, which will be good to solve other positions early.

He had little slot coverage snaps, but he liked what he saw in Watts. He has appropriate coverage, run defense and pass rush production and can be an initial round option. There are some other names that can be discussed anymore, but from a statistical point of view, this is a candidate who can answer the slot corner’s stealers.
