Rome, March 28 (IPS) -Sedium, soil deterioration, air pollution, disappearing biodiversity, emerging factories and animal health problems are gathered in the current situation of multi -crisis. Guaranteed water security is just one of the many challenges faced by individuals, nations and worlds. But we should not forget that water takes up the largest proportion of our bodies and applies the same to animals, plants and the surface of the earth. The threat of water anxiety is not the problem we all live, but one of the greatest challenges of the century.

Water security is needed so that people can eat on a plate. Moreover, water security is a catalyst that makes the food and agricultural sector more efficient, inclusive, elastic and sustainable. Since its founding in 1945, the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) has advocated to improved natural resource management, and has recently raised voices every day to apply sustainable water management practices as a prerequisite for farmers’ elasticity.

More than 50 countries in Europe and Central Asia are not exempted in this situation, and in this situation, anxiety of water is not exempted from this situation in which anxiety increases in this situation, which weakens agricultural systems, exacerbates inequality, and interferes with the progress toward sustainable future.

For this reason, water security Regional Overview of Europe and Central Asian Food Security and Nutrition 2024 Emphasize the report, agriculture, food security, and nutrition in the water resources sector, the report to be released on April 2.

Water anxiety and unequal influence

In the water resource security in the area, Stark imbalances are displayed. Certain European Union member states face more water resources security, people living in Central Asia and Caucasus and the West Balkans are facing considerable challenges. Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan are one of the least water resources countries in this area, and water consumption is deteriorated due to inefficient losses caused by aging infrastructure, excess of available resources. Human tolls are important. Floods and droughts have influenced more than a million people, resulting in $ 14 billion in the region, which determines climate change.

Climate change and increase in demand for water worsens water shortages in the area. The variability of precipitation patterns, glacier melting and long -term drought is increasingly frequent and intense that it causes damage to agriculture, especially farmers. In some areas of this area, energy demand for hydroelectric power generation in upstream countries, especially in Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan, emphasizes the necessity of adjusted irrigation water resource management by competing with downstream irrigation demands.

Water resources security extends beyond the quantity and should not be overlooked. Agriculture contributes to water pollution through many areas in many areas, mostly fertilizers and insecticides, which weakens food safety and soil health. Guaranteed appropriate water, hygiene and hygiene infrastructure is important in food security, especially in rural areas.

Future Road: Innovation and Governance

The complexity and interconnection of food and water resource security issues require innovative solutions and powerful governance. The FAO emphasizes integrated resource management and advocates the NEXUS approach to the Number Energy Food Eco System, which considers the needs of all related sectors. Above all, the natural infrastructure, which can be found in precision and digital agriculture, energy efficient irrigation, treated wastewater reuse and the natural infrastructure found in Kyrgyzstan’s artificial glaciers, is already contributing to this comprehensive approach.

In Europe and Central Asia, the FAO has put 80 years of expertise in supporting countries to strengthen climate recovery and water resource governance. These efforts include water shortage initiatives in areas that focus on modernization, drought elasticity and water quality improvement. The world’s ONE health approach is improving water, hygiene and hygiene standards in Tajikistan and Turkmenistan. In addition, regional technology platforms on water shortages promote global collaboration and knowledge exchange for countries that seek food and water security for sustainable social and economic development.

One thing is clear with water. Today’s investment in sustainable water management will calculate dividends for food security, peace and prosperity for future generations of Europe and Central Asia.
