World No. 4 Coco Gauff will make her United Cup debut for the United States alongside World No. 7 and US Open finalist Taylor Fritz in the innovative mixed team event in 2025.

The 20-year-old Gauff, who served as the flag bearer for Team USA at the Paris Olympics, has found success in a team environment.

“This is my first time playing in the United Cup so I’m really excited to start the year in Australia,” said Gauff. “It is always an honor to represent my country.”

“This is a really cool event. I had so much fun playing mixed doubles at the Olympics that I want to do it again.

“I’ve never been to any other part of Australia other than Melbourne. “I don’t know what city I’ll be playing in yet, but I’m really looking forward to going, whether it’s Perth or Sydney.”

The unique team environment that the United Cup provides is also a great motivation for Leylah Fernandez and Felix Auger-Aliassime, who are scheduled to return to the Canadian national team in 2025.

“I want to play in the United Cup 2025 because it is a really fun team experience,” said Fernandez, a 2021 US Open finalist.

“I love being part of a team. You get to see a little bit more of the masculine side of the team, how they think on the court, you get to pick their brains a little bit.

“I think the interaction between all of us is [is special]We’ve grown up together, so it’s nice to have a moment to catch up.”

“It’s a great way to start the year,” agrees Auger-Aliassime.

Stefanos Tsitsipas and Maria Sakkari from Greece (12), Zheng Qinwen from China (7), and Casper Ruud from Norway (9) participated in the third competition in September.

From Friday, December 27 to Sunday, January 5, 18 countries, comprised of up to three men and up to three women, will compete in Perth and Sydney.

United Cup Tournament Director Stephen Farrow is delighted to have five more players taking part in the early stages of the tournament.

“We are thrilled to see Grand Slam champion Coco Gauff join Team USA for the first time, along with US Open finalist Taylor Fritz,” said Farrow.

“World number three Alexander Zverev of Germany, a two-time Grand Slam finalist and Tokyo Olympic gold medalist, always brings energy to the United Cup and there is no doubt that the defending champion will head into the first week of the new year. It will be a busy run.

“We are also delighted to welcome Leylah Fernandez and Felix Auger-Aliassime back to the 2025 event. Canadian fans came out in droves earlier this year and we look forward to seeing them back in their national colors to support the team’s next campaign. ”

Entries to the first 16 teams in the United Cup require players to participate by the tournament entry deadline of October 16. The remaining two teams will be decided after the second preliminary round on November 19.

The official draw will take place on October 21 and determine where each country will play in the group stage.

Ten countries will qualify for the United Cup with the five highest ranked men and five highest ranked women participating based on PIF ATP and WTA rankings.

Eight teams will qualify based on their highest ranking, which is the combined highest ranking of the male and female athletes from the same country.
