Ten Hag praises Onana despite Manchester United’s frustrating draw

Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag has heaped praise on goalkeeper Andre Onana following his excellent performance against Crystal Palace.

Ten Hag was quick to applaud Onana’s performance, praising him for his performance which helped United keep a clean sheet at Selhurst Park after a disappointing night for the Red Devils.

Speaking to BBC Match of the Day about the particularly impressive double save, the Dutchman said: “Unbelievable save, Andre is absolutely explosive. He is a great stopper. He made two saves in one motion.”

“We now know how good he is. His reactions are really good, really quick and we saw that in the second half save.”

Despite the draw, Ten Hag admitted his team had made progress but still had room for improvement, particularly when it came to finishing chances in front of goal and scoring with more accuracy.

“Of course, but we are in the process,” Ten Hag said when asked about the need to win games like this.

“At Brighton we were level. In the last 30 minutes we lost control a bit after scoring what we thought was the winner, but then we lost the game so now we’re one step ahead.

“We take it, but if you want to be a very good team in the Premier League you have to be more clinical in front of goal than your opponents.”

United were unfortunately unable to score, hitting the post three times throughout the game.

And Ten Hag admitted bad luck played a part in the missed opportunities.

Asked if hitting the bar three times was bad luck, he replied, “In that motion, it definitely is.”

“Garnazzo’s finish, that’s not wrong. And Bruno on the rebound, that’s not wrong. It’s a difficult ball to catch. It’s bad luck.”

“You have to score. Of course, I am very disappointed when you are so dominant in the game.

“We played very good football but we also pressed very well. We gave too much direction in the game but we didn’t score.”
