A total of four touchdown passes were thrown during the Kansas City Chiefs’ dramatic 30-27 win over the Carolina Panthers on Sunday, but the most important catch came at Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte, North Carolina.

Fans buzzed around the stand railings as they took their seats to receive souvenirs or high-five Chiefs players as they left the field. But they soon got scared when one child lost his footing and slipped over the edge of a high stand.

Thankfully, Kansas City defensive tackle Tershawn Wharton was on the scene to make the play of the day.

Wharton had two tackles on the field against the Panthers. But the two-time Super Bowl champion defensive lineman showed the hands and instincts of a wide receiver as he lunged forward and caught the falling kid, preventing him from hitting the turf.

“Honestly, it was a natural reaction,” Wharton said. “The Pat McAfee Show” on Tuesday. “I got right on his back and pushed him a little further into the stands.”

Wharton’s quick reaction helped the child avoid falling head first. He said in an interview with McAfee that he tries to invite younger fans to Chiefs games.
