According to sources, Tesla is seeking to register its advanced driver assistance system, Fully Self-Driving (FSD) software, with China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology. speaking Reuters. This is a preliminary phase that will allow employees to test the system before it is ultimately rolled out to customers in Tesla’s second-largest global market.

The news comes after CEO Elon Musk visited China last month after government officials lifted restrictions on the use of Tesla vehicles and the company signed a deal to collect mapping data. FSD currently costs $99 per month in the US, with a one-time activation fee of $8,000. Reuters According to sources, there may be a similar monthly subscription fee in China. It will also face competition from Chinese automakers such as BYD, Nio and Xpeng, which already have advanced driver assistance systems in China.

The Tesla FSD system currently available in China is a less capable iteration of software, similar to the company’s Autopilot system that can assist with steering but does not automatically navigate city streets. In the United States, FSD and Autopilot have been linked to hundreds of crashes and dozens of deaths, according to a report released by NHTSA in April.

Tesla has not yet launched FSD in Europe either. As we wrote in 2022, “To get that approval, Tesla would need to have a car equipped with FSD. at least it’s safe Like those who don’t have it. At least so far. Did not do it.”
