The Chicago Bears have requested to speak with New York Giants head coach and offensive coordinator Mike Kafka regarding filling their head coaching vacancy. NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reports..

Kafka, 37, has served as the Giants’ offensive coordinator since Brian Daboll took over as head coach in 2022. He previously worked as Patrick Mahomes’ quarterbacks coach under head coach Andy Reid in Kansas City.

Kafka would be a perfect fit for the Bears as he is a Chicago native and former star quarterback at Northwestern University.

This is his third offseason on the coaching merry-go-round. He has been interviewed multiple times over the past two years and has been passed over by several teams, including the Carolina Panthers and Arizona Cardinals.

As the Giants’ offensive coordinator this season, Kafka had no play-calling responsibilities since Daboll took over.

Last week too, Kakfa was asked about his future plans.

“Obviously, I love being here and I love working for Dabes and everyone,” Kafka said.

“Mike was a great teammate, a great coach and a great friend. It’s good for us,” Daboll said.

Daboll is still mulling over his role as play-caller going forward after co-owner John Mara spoke about it on Monday. If Kafka leaves, Daboll will have to find another coach to make plays for him.
