There’s no better way to end a delicious dinner than with something sweet. But as colder weather approaches and the holidays approach, our dessert recipes call for something more decadent and indulgent. Something that comforts you and your guests so they come back for more. When I do that, I imagine a pot of velvety, rich, warm chocolate swirling around with delicious treats like berries and slices of cake. That’s right – fondue. Is there anything more decadent than chocolate fondue on a cold winter night? It’s almost like being able to go to heaven. Adding caramel will get it a little closer.
secret ingredient
This time I’m thinking of a more sophisticated fondue. It’s a little more adult. What could be more fantastic than combining Marsala and chocolate? Marsala, a Sicilian fortified wine with a rich hazelnut flavor, is commonly added to dishes with nuts and caramel sauces. To this fondue we add a few splashes. Holland House Marsala Cooking Wine. Trust me. It takes it to a whole other level.
Why use cooking wine?
This is great if you can’t finish the entire bottle but still want to add some wine flavor to your recipes. It’s also a great pantry staple for when you want to spice up your favorite dishes like beef, chicken, pork, and more. But today we are talking about sweet things. Because Marsala cooking wine contains a bit of salt, Holland House Marsala Cooking Wine beautifully balances the sweetness of the chocolate and caramel in this recipe, creating a more luxurious fondue blend.

memo
Note: You can find both caramel sauce and caramel topping at the grocery store. The “topping” is thicker for ice cream. That’s exactly what you want for this recipe. As long as you can find the caramel sauce, your fondue will still taste amazing! Reduce the amount of cream by just 1/2 cup at the beginning of the recipe. After adding all the ingredients, you can add the remaining cream a little at a time until you get the right consistency. It should be pretty and thick. It’s not a runny nose.
