Christian Horner expects 2025 to be a “hugely close race” at the front of the field, with the Red Bull boss admitting consistency will be key as his side look to hit back after losing the Constructors’ Championship.

While Max Verstappen successfully defended his drivers’ title to become world champion for the fourth consecutive year, Red Bull lost to McLaren and Ferrari also ended the season ahead in second place.

Reflecting on McLaren’s victory after the season-ending Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, a race in which Verstappen collided with Oscar Piastri on the first lap before Lando Norris won, Horner acknowledged the Woking team had come away with the win.

“Congratulations to McLaren and all the men and women in attendance,” Horner said. “We know how difficult it is to win the Constructors’ World Championship and the dedication and hard work it takes. Same goes for Zak. [Brown] and andrea [Stella] And congratulations to our shareholders, and above all to all the men and women of McLaren.

“They have been outstanding this year. Two drivers performed very well and deserved the win in the end. I’m sure my pulse and blood pressure went up from the start of the race when I was with Oscar. [when Verstappen collided with the Australian] But, yes. Even though we won more races and more sprint races, they deserved to take the Constructors’ Championship this year.
