The coastline ‘Natural defense is required’

The result was clear. NBC is popular and 60 %of respondents said they were their favorite choices. Many people did not oppose nature, but loved the idea of more eco -friendly and sustainable approaches that work with nature.

But with the effects, most respondents believed that hard defense was a better choice. This shows the gap between what people want and what they will actually work.

Solid defense such as breakwaters and GroynesIt has been around for a long time and is considered a ‘tried and tested’ method. In contrast, NBC is not familiar and long -term results are less known.

consciousness

Interestingly, most people rejected the idea that they did nothing. More than 85 % of respondents could not protect the coast even if the natural process could form a landscape for not being protected by the coast. This shows that even if the coastal protection is different on the best methods, it is important for the community.

People’s preference for difficult defense can be partially explained by visibility and history. It is easy to trust the breakwater because you can see the standing between the house and the sea.

Hard defenses also have decades of evidence that can also cause problems elsewhere, but can reduce risks in the short term.

In contrast, NBC often works behind the stage. Saltmarshs and Sand Dunes can take several years to establish and show their benefits. It becomes more difficult for people to trust them completely.

This study emphasizes the need to raise the public’s perception of how effective the operation and effect of these solutions. Without this understanding, the NBC can struggle to get the necessary extensive support.

protect

Increasing and effective communication is essential to make NBC a key part of the coastal protection. People need to actually see the example of these solutions with evidence of success.

Participation in community is also important. By participating in the NBC’s plan and implementation, we can not only meet the needs of those designed to protect these solutions, but also make it feel that they invest in the process.

Another way is to combine NBC with traditional defense. This hybrid approach provides the best of the two worlds. It provides long -term advantages from hard defense and immediate protection and more natural protection measures. Over time, such a project can help you build trust in NBC’s effects.

As the risk of the coast increases, we need a solution that protects the environment as well as at home. This study shows that people are deeply interested in coastal protection and are open to more eco -friendly and sustainable approaches.

However, it takes time and effort to bridge the gap between public preference and recognized effects. We can improve education, participate in the community, and introduce successful projects to build trust in NBC and ensure that the coast is safe, but also thrive in life.

Protecting our coast is not just an environmental challenge. Rather, it is an opportunity to imagine our relationship with our nature and to guarantee a better future for generations in the future.
