Roger O’Donnell — The Cure’s longtime keyboardist — has revealed surprising news a year after being diagnosed with blood cancer.
The musician stepped out on X Sunday to mark Blood Cancer Awareness Month, and said he hopes people will start talking about the deadly disease.
O’Donnell revealed that she was diagnosed with lymphoma (a type of blood cancer) in September 2023, and that she ignored the symptoms for a while after learning she had the cancer, but eventually went to see a doctor.
Roger was initially shocked, but he is now feeling better and his prognosis is very good. This is after undergoing multiple treatments.
One important piece of advice Roger gives people is… get tested early, because the sooner people act, the better their chances of beating cancer.
He also encourages fans to reach out to friends and family who are sick… because kind words can make a big difference to someone struggling with health issues. He thanks his loved ones and the medical staff who helped him through the process.
Roger toured with The Cure from May to September last year… and apparently was diagnosed shortly after the tour ended. He joined the group in 1987 and played with them several times over the years.
The Cure has no upcoming concert dates… and it’s unclear whether O’Donnell will be ready to hit the road when the band schedules its next show.
