The Miami Dolphins are at home to face the Buffalo Bills on Thursday Night Football to kick off Week 2 of the 2024 NFL season. Both teams are coming off Week 1 wins. Miami’s Jason Sanders kicked a 52-yard field goal as time expired to give the Jaguars a 20-17 win. Buffalo came back in the second half to win 34-28 over the Cardinals.

RB Raheem Mostert and De’Von Achance were injured in Week 1. Mostert only caught the ball six times in Sunday’s win over the Jaguars. ESPN’s Marcel Louis-Jacques reports Mostert will miss Thursday night’s game against the Bills with a pectoral injury. Achane is also expected to be ruled out for game time with an ankle injury. Miami’s backfield is not ideal to start the 2024 season.

Miami should utilize its RB depth in Week 2 against the Buffalo Bills.

RB Raheem Mostert suffered a pectoral injury during the Week 1 win over the Jaguars. The 31-year-old will miss Week 2 against the Bills. Mostert would have had a chance to play if this was Sunday’s game, but Thursday night’s quick turnaround isn’t enough time for the veteran RB. Mostert started 15 games for the Dolphins last season and led the NFL with 21 rushing and receiving touchdowns. Mostert participated in 44 percent of Miami’s offensive snaps in Week 1. He carried the ball six times for nine yards and had two catches for 10 yards.

De’Von Achane led all Dolphins RBs with 10 carries on Sunday. However, Jeff Wilson Jr. led the team in rushing with 26 yards on just five carries. Achane was also utilized in the passing game with seven catches for 76 yards. The speedy RB will be a game-time decision on Thursday against the Bills. He appeared in 11 games for the Dolphins as a rookie, with four starts. The third-round pick out of Texas A&M averaged (72.7) rushing yards per game last season. With Mostert and Achance out Thursday, the Dolphins can turn to RB depth. Jeff Wilson Jr. will have a job and rookie Jaye Wright could see his first NFL action. We’ll have to wait until tomorrow’s game to see if Achane will play or if the Dolphins will be without their top two rushers.
