There are several teams that can claim to be legitimate Super Bowl contenders, but the championship still goes to the Kansas City Chiefs.

The Chiefs are trying to make history by winning their third straight Super Bowl, and as they hold the No. 1 seed in the AFC, they are ready to do just that.

At 15-1, Kansas City was a dominant force during the regular season despite not having a consistent offense for most of it.

Patrick Mahomes hasn’t delivered his usual flashy passing yardage and touchdown numbers, but he’s still been one of the best at keeping the offense on schedule.

Now Mahomes and other key starters will get a few weeks off before taking the field again.

Health is always a top priority, but one former NFL QB said an extended vacation could end up being detrimental for the Chiefs.

“If things continue the way they are now… They will go three and a half weeks without meaningful football. It’s really scary. Chris Simms said on “The Dan Le Batard Show with Stugotz”:

Coach Andy Reid announced that Mahomes and others will participate in the Week 18 game against the Denver Broncos, giving them additional rest with a first-round bye.

However, as Simms points out, this can ultimately be detrimental to the team because it can push them out of rhythm and grow faster than usual.

However, Kansas City has some doubts considering its recent playoff success.
