The Giants’ Brian Daboll and Adore Jackson’s performances

With less than two days until the New York Giants opener of the 2024 season, they still haven’t decided who they’ll start at the No. 2 outside cornerback spot.

On Friday, coach Brian Daboll was asked directly what his plans are for the position.

“We’ll make that decision. We’ll have someone in mind,” he said. “We’ll talk about it after practice today.”

One player Dayball may have in mind is veteran Adoree Jackson, who the Giants signed this week after failing to find a clear winner among Cordale Plott, Nick McCloud and Tre Hawkins III this summer.

Jackson has not signed with any team this offseason, including the Giants, since his three-year, $39 million contract with Big Blue expired in March.

Jackson has claimed that other teams are interested in him, so we’ll have to take his word for it, but no NFL camps have reported interest or scheduled visits (we’ll continue to monitor these developments).

The former Tennessee Titans first-round pick admitted to reporters this week that he could probably play 60 or so plays if drafted, but that it would be tough.

Daboll seemed pleased with Jackson’s progress in practice this week.

“He looks good. He’s in good shape,” Daboll said. “He’s had a couple of good practices. He’s learned the system well. He’s been with Shane (Bowen) before. He’s been strong with him the last couple of days.”

Jackson knows Bowen and his style from their time together in Tennessee, so the learning curve and terminology shouldn’t be too difficult. The problem is the physical part. It’s hard to get on the field after sitting on the couch for months.

“He’s been doing great in practice,” Daboll said repeatedly. “He’s been doing reps. He’s been there. He’s looking good.”

Let’s find out. This week’s opponent, the Minnesota Vikings, brings in two of the league’s best receivers, Justin Jefferson and Jordan Addison.

The Vikings, under head coach Kevin O’Connell, also love to pass, scoring 81.1 percent of their touchdowns (30 of 37) last season. was through the airIt’s the highest percentage in the NFL and also the highest total offensive yards (73.7%).

The Giants will be up for a challenge this week, and Jackson could be the key to whether they can do it.
