The New York Jets made headlines when they announced they had fired former head coach Robert Saleh.

Saleh’s firing seemed inevitable after the team started the season 2-3, and the recent loss to the Minnesota Vikings served as the final straw for Woody Johnson.

The owner was clearly tired of his team underperforming and decided to part ways with Saleh, who posted a losing record as Jets head coach.

With Saleh no longer in charge, the organization appointed Jeff Ubrich as the new head coach.

The defensive coordinator was a logical choice given his experience and relationships with the players in the locker room, and has already garnered praise for his leadership and attitude.

When asked how the players handled the changes, the former NFL linebacker expressed appreciation for their approach.

“I’ve been in this situation twice as a player and once as a coach. I’ve seen it work really well and I’ve seen it not work really well,” Ulbrich said, via Jets Videos. “So I’m so thankful for this locker room, the character of this locker room. Because they could very easily go sideways. … “It was absolutely fantastic.”

The Jets needed some kind of change to turn their season around, and it sounds like Ulbrich is succeeding in his new responsibilities.

There’s a lot of pressure on New York to compete for a playoff spot considering the amount of money they’ve invested in their roster, so Ulbrich will do his best to live up to those expectations.

There will be a lot of talk about Ulbrich in Week 6. That’s because the Jets face a Buffalo Bills team as they look to get back on track and remain atop the AFC East standings.
