I have been using the TCL Nxtpaper Tab 10 as an e-reader for about 4 months. Shortly after switching to tablets, I passed on my 2018 Kindle Paperwhite (10th generation) to my daughter and my 2020 iPad to my husband. Then I tried something new, 12th Generation Kindle Paperwhite Signature EditionAnd I’m not sure I can give it up.

TCL tablet provides full color mode, color paper and black and white paper mode, so you can get the full experience of tablet and e-reader. I love that it allows me to turn pages and navigate TCL’s Kindle app as quickly as possible on a smartphone or tablet, while still looking like an e-reader and putting my slow 6-year-old Kindle to shame.

When Amazon unveiled its new Kindle lineup, I fell in love with it like a ripe coconut falling on a sunny beach. I have had a Kindle for over 12 years and read religious books every night before going to bed. The new Kindle may not sound very exciting given the device’s simplicity, but the 2024 Kindle lineup is Amazon’s biggest upgrade in years, bringing with it the first full-color Kindle and the fastest page-turning yet.

The TCL Nxtpaper tablet has many advantages, but the Kindle Paperwhite SE has some key advantages that make it more advantageous than the TCL. Most importantly, the new Kindle Paperwhite weighs just 7.5 ounces and has a 7-inch display, which is smaller than my tablet. This makes it easier to hold the Kindle in one hand. This is something I struggled with every day while using the 10-inch, 16.9-ounce TCL tablet.

No one wants to carry around a pound of books. This is especially true if you read for a long time and like to hold your e-reader in one hand.

Regardless of its size and weight, the Kindle Paperwhite SE has up to 12 weeks of battery life on a single charge. This is based on reading for 30 minutes a day with wireless off and lights set to 13, so your mileage may vary.

Also: One of the best productivity tablets I’ve tested isn’t the iPad Pro or Remarkable.

My TCL tablet gives me about 20 hours, which is impressive for a tablet. I charge it about once a week and read a book for about an hour every night.

I’ve been using my Kindle Paperwhite for about two weeks and haven’t needed to charge it after the first time. This is very common for Kindle. My 10th generation Kindle Paperwhite lasted me about three weeks, and I read for less than an hour a day using the backlight.

Even after reading every day for two weeks on a single charge, up to three hours a day on some days, the Kindle Paperwhite still has 32% battery. According to Amazon, the Kindle Paperwhite can last about 42 hours of reading at brightness level 13.

Also: I spent the weekend reading Amazon’s latest Kindle, and it’s more useful than ever.

Considering I’ve read about 29.5 hours over the past two weeks and have 32% battery left, that estimate seems pretty accurate.

Aside from its long battery life, the fastest page turns we’ve ever seen on a Kindle, and the benefits of a lightweight, compact e-reader, the Kindle Paperwhite SE also has the advantage of being a dedicated, undisturbed reading device.
