The trailer opens with Rand al’Thor (Joshua Stradowski) and others standing on a hill overlooking a fog-shrouded city. Rand and Moiraine Damodred (Rosamund Pike) head to the Aiel Waste this season “to uncover the true fate of the Reborn Dragon,” according to the trailer description. If you haven’t seen the show or read Robert Jordan’s book series of the same name, Rand is the Dragon Reborn, a being prophesied to save the world or destroy it if it succumbs to darkness.

“I saw tens of thousands of futures. In every future I’ve lived in, Rand dies,” says Moiraine Damodred (Rosamund Pike). “And the only way he lives is if I don’t.” she added, before we see Rand being carried away unconscious at the end of the trailer.

In addition to Stradowski and Pike, several characters will return in season 3, including Perrin Aybara (Marcus Rutherford), Nynaeve al’Meara (Zoë Robbins), Mat Cauthon (Dónal Finn), and al-Lan Mandragoran (Daniel Henney).
