Tim David’s explosive half-century gave Hobart Hurricanes a five-wicket win over Adelaide Strikers on Sunday. Chasing a challenging target of 187, the Hurricanes recovered from a shaky start to secure their fourth win in five matches thanks to David’s middle-over heroics.
Hurricane gets off to a good start
The Hurricanes got off to a fast start thanks to an attacking opening partnership between Mitchell Owen and Matthew Wade. The duo added 61 runs in just 28 balls to set the tone for the chase. Owen was particularly devastating, hitting three successive sixes off Jamie Overton in his fourth over.
But Lloyd Pope brought the Strikers back into the game by dismissing Owen for 37 off 16 balls. Wade fell 18 to 27 soon after as he attempted to sweep Cameron Boyce. The once cruising hurricane reached 101/4 by the 11th.
Team David’s Heroes
Once the perimeter dried, Tim David took matters into his own hands. He targeted Overton in the 15th over, smashing three sixes and a four to take 26 runs from the over. David showed off his explosive batting ability by scoring a half-century in just 22 balls.

Tim David and Nikhil Chaudhary stitched together a crucial 75-run stand for the fifth wicket to steady the Hurricanes’ chase. Chaudhary contributed steadily with 22 off 22 balls before getting out, but David ensured that there was no mistake.
With just 11 runs needed from the last two overs, David hit Brendan Doggett for a six to relieve the pressure and Chris Jordan sealed the win with a boundary. With the Hurricanes finishing the match with eight balls to spare, David finished unbeaten by hitting a blistering 62 off just 28 balls, smashing a six and three fours.
Strikers’ collective striking efforts
Earlier in the day, Adelaide Strikers had a contested aggregate of 186/5 thanks to valuable contributions from Chris Lynn and Alex Ross. Lynn’s quickfire 49 off 27 balls, featuring five fours and three sixes, gave the Strikers a solid start.
Ross played a key role in the middle overs, scoring 47 off 29 balls. He shared a 64-run stand with Ollie Pope before falling to Mitchell Owen’s brilliant catch. Overton’s 27 off 18 deliveries allowed the Strikers to add 41 runs in the last four overs to ensure a strong finish.
