Titans CB Chidobe Awuji ‘definitely’ likely to be on IR

NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Tennessee Titans starting cornerback Chidobe Awuji will miss an extended period of time with a groin strain suffered in Sunday’s 14-30 loss to the Green Bay Packers.

Titans coach Brian Callahan said there’s a “definite” chance Owusu will end up on the injured list.

“Chido has a groin issue,” Callahan said. “He’s probably going to miss a couple of weeks at this point. We don’t know the timeline yet, but we expect him to be out for some time.”

Awuzie suffered a groin injury while covering Packers receiver Romeo Doubs on the last Titans defensive play of the first quarter. The Titans signed Awuzie to a three-year, $36 million contract in March.

Rookie cornerback Jarvis Brownlee Jr. stepped in for Awuzie and played 28 snaps. Callahan said the Titans will stick with Brownlee as the starter opposite L’Jarius Sneed in Awuzie’s absence.

Second-year cornerback Darrell Baker Jr. also saw snaps in the game. Tennessee could add cornerback Tre Avery from the practice squad to the active roster if Awuzie goes on the injured list.
