Trent Alexander-Arnold continues early talks with Liverpool over a possible contract extension, but sources remain “unclear” about the outcome.
After the season ends, Alexander-Arnold’s future looks less certain than that of Virgil van Dijk and Mohamed Salah.
Neither Van Dijk nor Salah have yet found a breakthrough in their talks with Liverpool, but expectations still remain that they will eventually sign new deals.
But with Real Madrid among clubs courting the vice-captain, this could be Alexander-Arnold’s last season at Anfield.
According to athletic‘s David Ornstein said talks with the club were “ongoing” as the two parties size up each other regarding a potential new deal.
But Ornstein added, “It’s unclear how this matter will conclude.”
Considering his update also included suggestions for Van Dijk and Salah, his source is likely to be someone closer to the club than the player himself.

Earlier this week, Ornstein said explained Liverpool said they were “working hard to keep up”. [Alexander-Arnold]” rather than “You will have to do whatever is necessary to fulfill his wishes.”
This rightly suggests that the Alexander-Arnold camp is in control of the situation. That’s because the 26-year-old can take advantage of Real Madrid’s specific interest to secure a firm hold on the desired period.

He will almost certainly seek a significant pay rise close to what Salah currently earns, which could be difficult to negotiate given that both the Egyptian and Liverpool’s captain will need to sign new contracts.
Ornstein reports that the club has already made a formal offer for Van Dijk and a progress is considered imminent when it comes to Salah.
