Trump has already caused problems for Mike Johnson at home.

It will take Republicans months to fill the House seats that will be left behind by Trump selecting some Republican House members for his administration, which will make Speaker Mike Johnson’s majority even smaller.

Politico reported:

Republican leaders are likely to struggle to secure their already slim majority in key policy fights and presidential elections. And unlike the Senate, members of the House of Representatives cannot get a replacement to be quickly reappointed. Leaders must wait for the position to be filled through a special election, which typically takes months.

“He can’t choose more. “Our majority is too thin,” said one House Republican, speaking on condition of anonymity.

erase We have already selected Rep. Stefanik and Rep. Waltz for positions in the new administration. House Republicans will likely wait months for those seats to be filled due to the slow pace of special elections. The Republican House majority could be much smaller than it was in the last Congress, making it virtually impossible to get anything done. In an ideal world, Trump would not have chosen any House Republicans to serve in his administration.

With more than two months left until Trump takes office, potential land mines are already forming that could hinder smooth sailing for Republicans.
