Donald Trump must be humiliated after his choice and heavily endorsed candidate for Speaker of the House, Mike Johnson, crashed and burned on the first ballot. But Trump, as usual, was only thinking about himself when he posted the following on Truth Social:
Democrats are all “giddy” about the prospect of our magnificent American flag potentially being positioned at “half mast” during my inauguration. They think it’s really great and they’re very happy about it. Because in reality they don’t love our country and only think about themselves. Look what they have done to our once great America in the last four years. It’s a total mess! In any case, President Jimmy Carter’s death may result in flags being placed at half-mast for the first time during future presidential inauguration ceremonies. No one wants to see this, and no American should be happy to see it. Let’s see how it goes. Make America Great Again!
I don’t think the Democratic Party can get any joy from having the flag lowered over the death of a great American.
Trump is clearly trying to spark a public outcry to have flags flown at half-staff for his inauguration, but that’s not going to happen. He will have the authority to raise the flag at half-staff after he takes office at noon on January 20. Until then, Biden’s order honoring former President Jimmy Carter will remain in effect.
Donald Trump has not yet taken office, but he has already experienced several failures. Trump failed to force Congress to raise the debt limit. Trump was unable to garner the level of support needed to quickly elect Mike Johnson as Speaker.
Instead of trying to rally the pack of kittens that is the House Republican Conference, the president-elect is complaining that the country is honoring Jimmy Carter.
Trump may be the first president to make himself completely irrelevant.
