Cricket’s world and Glosster Sher Cricket are especially poor after last week of Roger Gibbons, 80 years old. Persistent success Global CCC Heritage Trust.

This trust is a charity that is dedicated to preservation of county history and was established in 2014. Initially, when the museum and the learning center opened the door to the County’s Nevillod headquarters in Bristol, Roger was one of the trustees.

It was his ability to meet Roger a few years ago, and in various e -mail exchange, he sometimes kept the museum’s occasional publications to the latest state. Roger himself was the author of the Best of the Best, and my collection has no battlefield book with his name, but his paper has been the most welcome feature in recent years.

I think Roger has helped design and has a booklet. But in their hearts, it was fascinating. In each case, the paper has made the fact that Roger is also a great Word Smith, in addition to the diligent study of Glosster Sher Cricket and the less known aspect of his topic.

He started with Memoriam, which has a fragmentation to the GloucesterShire cricket athletes in 2015, and made ultimate sacrifice for the country in Daejeon. The person was re -printed in 2019 with more than three. My personal favorite paper was very interested in reliable stories of Indian tours proposed by Globalshire in 1936/37.

The other two 2019 titles were delayed in transportation, and in the summer of 1944 and 1945, they set up the formation and record of the West of England XI and deal with dead people. The latter title is convinced that I would not have seen the light of the day if I hadn’t been for the roger. It is the story of his discovery that the history of the game, record storage and statistics scholars for many years, misunderstood three anonymous performances for Glossians in the Victorian era.

And for three years until 2022, when four titles appeared in Roger’s cottage industry. Regarding CB Grace, the memoir of the legendary WG’s youngest son, Charles Butler Grace, appeared four times in the first class game. George PEPALL: Cricketer and Countryman saw a man who sometimes played in Gloucestershire with interesting back story in the early 20th century.

The other two 2022 titles are fascinating in social and cricket history. Holiday: Gloucester Cricket Week 1943 has seen holiday time entertainment for the public of GloucesterShire in the exhibition, and Bristol Cricket Challenge CUP Competition 1885-1892 reconstructs the history of Victorian club games. cup.

Three years later, I hoped that we would have seen another publication of Roger’s publications, but sadly, his passing would seem to end the idea without the title in the preparation process. If so, I sincerely hope that they will develop well enough for their colleagues in Heritage Trust to print and print.

History was a collector as well as Roger, but I heard that unlike the cricket tragedy, I am interested in a better deal than the cricket. The accountant by the job was clearly heard from the excellent company and the great Raconteur in the Fulsome tribute that appeared over the last few days. In November, I met him once at an event hosted by Stephen Chalke of Lansdowne Cricket Club. For me it was a great event, and I met a lot of people who were e -mails. At some point, Roger said he came up and apologized to me, but he wanted to introduce himself, and he said he could talk later. Sadly, we never did it and never did it now, but even in that short meeting he exudes bonhomie, good humor and knowledge. His companion photo signed on some of his papers Boundary book ‘ Showroom,,, I capture it very well.
