Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu delivered a much-anticipated speech today to a joint session of the U.S. Congress.
The speech comes at a critical juncture in the ongoing Israel-Hamas conflict.
Early in the morning of October 7, Hamas militants entered Israeli territory and attacked several communities near the Gaza Strip.
Armed with automatic weapons and explosives, Hamas terrorists targeted residential areas, schools and markets, with no regard for human life. Witnesses described scenes of chaos and terror as families tried to escape the onslaught.
Israeli authorities reported that Iran-backed Hamas terrorists killed 1,400 Jews in Israel, took 240 Jews hostage, and wounded many others. The victims included men, women and children, many of whom were unsuspecting in their homes.
“We meet today at a crossroads of history. Our world is in upheaval,” Netanyahu said. “In the Middle East, the Iranian axis of terror is facing the United States, Israel and our Arab friends. This is not a clash of civilizations. It is a clash of civilization with barbarism. It is a clash between those who glorify death and those who sanctify life. If the forces of civilization are to prevail, the United States and Israel must come together.”
