Antonio Giovinazzi, driving the #51 Ferrari 499P, took pole position for the Lone Star Le Mans, round 6 of the 2024 FIA World Endurance Championship, after an epic Hyperpole session at the Circuit of the Americas in Texas.
The Italian set an incredible lap time of 1:50.390 seconds to give the #51 Ferrari AF Corse its first top spot of the season, while Ferrari claimed its second pole position of the season.
Robert Kubica in the #83 AF Corse Ferrari 499P took 1-2 on the Prancing Horse, the yellow 499P just 0.277 seconds behind Giovinazzi’s best time.
The #2 Cadillac Racing Hypercar driven by Alex Lin secured third place after a late lap, overtaking the #35 Alpine driven by Charles Millesi, who surprised everyone with a superb qualifying performance.
Antonio Fuoco took fifth place in the #50 Ferrari AF Corse 499P, leaving three Ferraris in the top five.
#36 Mick Schumacher in the Alpine A424 was unable to compete in the Hyperpole after suffering from door hatch problems when an insect entered the cockpit during qualifying.
The championship-leading #6 Porsche Penske 963 Hypercar starts a lowly 14th in the Hypercar class after Kevin Estre struggled to set a fast lap time in qualifying.
Sebastian Buemi and the #8 Toyota crew suffered a disappointing result as the Swiss driver failed to qualify for the hyperpole session and started in 12th place.
Heart of Racing Aston Martin takes LMGT3 pole position
Ian James, in the #27 Heart of Racing Aston Martin Vantage, took a superb pole position with a superb lap time of 2:05.587.
The American-British driver claimed his first pole position at the Heart of Racing team’s home circuit.
Sarah Bovi, driving the Iron Dames Lamborghini Huracan, took the lead, finishing just 0.172 seconds behind the pole time.
The top four manufacturers are now in place, with the #92 Manthey PureRxcing Porsche 911 RSR GT3, driven by Aliaksandr Malikin and leading the championship, taking fourth place.
Also, two-time FIA WEC class champion Ben Keating returns to the series this weekend, driving a Ford Mustang GT3 for Proton Competition. The 53-year-old finished ninth.
