The Azerbaijan Grand Prix was another reminder of how fierce the race for the 2024 lead will be. With the last four rounds having seen different drivers take the win, it was Oscar Piastri’s turn in Baku, as the McLaren driver held off the chasing Charles Leclerc to claim victory.

With team-mate Lando Norris recovering from a tough qualifying session to finish fourth, McLaren now sit top of the constructors’ standings with 476 points, 20 ahead of former champions Red Bull.

It helped that Sergio Perez missed out on a potential podium finish when he crashed into Carlos Sainz late in the race (both drivers crashed into the wall and were eliminated from the event), but the Working Team still look stronger than their Milton Keynes rivals, who are facing increasing problems with their once dominant RB20.

But the battle has taken another interesting turn that paints an interesting picture going forward. Ferrari are back on their feet, Leclerc still sits third in the drivers’ standings, while the Scuderia are just 31 points behind Red Bull in the constructors’ standings.

Mercedes’ performance has also proven to be an interesting one, with the Silver Arrows winning back-to-back games in Austria, England and Belgium but looking a bit behind in recent games.

With such subtle differences across the pack, everything is competitive in Singapore. Which team will emerge victorious this time? Will we see more changes in the championship standings?

Fan Comment: Williams had a great day in Baku, with Alex Albon seventh and rookie Franco Colapinto eighth, and unsurprisingly both will be looking to do well again in Singapore. As always, the Aston Martins of Fernando Alonso and Lance Stroll are well supported. F1 play Gamer.
