Wimbledon 2024: Emma Raducano, Naomi Osaka, Caroline Wozniacki among wildcards

Former British player Emma Raducanu has been granted a wildcard to play at Wimbledon next month.

Raducanu, 21, is one of four Grand Slam champions to receive an exemption from women’s singles.

Naomi Osaka of Japan, Caroline Wozniacki of Denmark, and 2018 Wimbledon winner Angelique Kerber of Germany were also invited.

Wildcards are awarded to players who are not ranked high enough at the All England Club to qualify directly for the main draw.

Radukanu is still working his way back after missing most of last year, including Wimbledon, following wrist and ankle surgery.

Osaka, Kerber and Wozniacki have all returned to the tour in the past year after giving birth.

Britain’s Heather Watson, Fran Jones and Lily Miyazaki also received wildcards in the women’s singles.

The initial seven wildcards in men’s singles were all awarded to British players.

Leading the way is Liam Broady, who has advanced to the third round the past two years in a row.

Last year’s schoolboy champion Henry Searle and Billy Harris, who achieved the biggest win of his career at Queen’s on Tuesday, have been invited.

Jan Choinski, Jacob Fearnley, Arthur Fery and Paul Jubb also star.

Wimbledon announced its wildcards on Wednesday. The Grand Slam tournament begins on July 1.
