Yuvraj Singh took to social media to express his thoughts after New Zealand’s stunning 3-0 win over India in the Test series. The Kiwis won the third Test in Mumbai by 25 runs, marking a historic moment for both the teams. The defeat means India have been whitewashed in a home Test series for the first time since 2000.

Yuvraj Singh Reacts to Historic Whitewash by Team India

Yuvraj wrote in his tweet: “Cricket is such a humbling sport, isn’t it? Just a few months after winning the T20 World Cup, we face a historic whitewash. That’s the beauty of this game! A bigger test lies ahead in the Australia series and the way forward is to reflect, learn and find out! Congratulations to @BLACKCAPS on their versatile performance and historic win.”

Yuvraj acknowledged that challenges still remain, even after recent successes. He emphasized that it is important for India to learn from this experience as they prepare for the next series against Australia.

New Zealand’s dominance in the series

New Zealand’s victory was the result of strong performances throughout the series. In the first Test in Bengaluru, fast bowlers and Rachin Ravindra set the tone for success. Mitchell Santner played a key role in securing the series with a 13-wicket haul in the second Test in Pune. The last Test in Mumbai featured another star, Ajaz Patel, who took 11 wickets in the match.

In Mumbai, Ajaz took 5 for 103 in the first innings and 6 for 57 in the second innings. His ability to take advantage of conditions at the Wankhede Stadium was key to New Zealand’s success. Despite India’s early collapse, Rishabh Pant stood out with a resolute 64 runs but could not save his team from defeat.

Impact on India’s World Test Championship rankings

India’s defeat will have significant implications for India’s position in the World Test Championship (WTC) points table. They were ranked first, but with this loss, they have now fallen to second place. Chances of qualifying for the WTC finals were also affected. Currently, India has 8 wins and 5 losses in 14 matches, with a winning point of 58.33.

The loss came as a wake-up call for coach Rohit Sharma’s team as they prepare for the upcoming five-match series against Australia. To qualify for the WTC finals you must win at least four matches. The pressure is mounting as they try to recover from this historic setback.

Daryl Mitchell and Tom Latham shine in New Zealand.

Daryl Mitchell was another key player for New Zealand in the series. He scored a crucial 82 runs in New Zealand’s first innings total of 235 in the final Test. This was his first half-century on the tour after struggling to score more than 20 runs in his previous innings. He was also outstanding on the field, taking eight catches in all three Tests.

Will Young also made a significant contribution despite Kane Williamson missing through injury. Young scored 244 runs throughout the series and earned the Player-of-the-Series award. His composed innings included two half-centuries on challenging tracks.
